CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- More than 600 firefighters suited up and climbed the Duke Energy Tower Saturday in uptown.

The annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb honors the 418 firefighters, police officers, and medic who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks.

You sort of put yourself in their shoes, and what they were thinking about that day. You think about their families and the kids they left behind, their wives and all the victims. So a lot of that goes through your mind while you're climbing, said Tom Brewer President of the Charlotte Firefighter Association.

Last year, stair climbs held across the country raised $15,000 for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
