BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- The death of an inmate at a South Carolina prison is being investigated as a homicide.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown says 26-year-old inmate Jamie White was stabbed to death at Evans Correctional Institution in Bennettsville on Sunday night.

State prison officials say White was serving an 11-year sentence for armed robbery out of Dillon County. He had been at Evans since September.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the death.
