ROCKHILL, S.C. -- Winthrop University's assistant dean was charged with Driving Under the Influence late Tuesday night.

Margaret Williamson was pulled over at 10:45 p.m. on Red River Road near Waterford Road in Rock Hill during a safety checkpoint, according to Highway Patrol. She was arrested on scene for DUI, officials said.

Williamson serves as the assistant dean of student services and retention in University College and has been with the school since 1997.

Under personnel rules, Winthrop will review any charges pending against an employee in due course; results of that review will remain confidential, said university spokeswoman Rebecca Masters in a statement.
