CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man in connection to a murder last weekend.

Police charged 23-year-old Demarcus Martel Melvin in the murder of Terrance Mingo around 9 p.m. on Friday.

Mingo, 29, was shot while he was standing in the front of his house Friday night on Old Meadow Road.

The bullet struck him in the chest, causing him to fall and crack his head open, police said. Police initially thought the head wound was also caused by a gunshot.

Melvin has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police have not given motive for the murder.
