WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- Police at the University of North Carolina Wilmington are investigating five small fires that were found on campus.

The StarNews of Wilmington reports that an email from UNCW Police Chief David Donaldson says campus police and the Wilmington Fire Department responded early Friday to a path in the woods off MacMillan Avenue, where the five fires were burning within 100 yards of one another.

Donaldson said the fires were extinguished and no structures were in danger at any time. He said the local fire department and the State Bureau of Investigation have been consulted.
