HICKORY, N.C. -- A fire ripped through an apartment complex in Hickory displacing 22 people early Friday morning.

A fire damaged several apartment units on 9th Avenue in southwest Hickory around 2:30 a.m.

Firefighters and police officers worked to evacuate the apartment complex and another apartment building, which was across from the burning structure.

The fire was under control 53 minutes after firefighters arrived on the scene, according to officials.

All residents were evacuated safely and no injuries.
