ROCK HILL, S.C. --Residents in one Rock Hill neighborhood said a Peeping Tom is ruining their lives.
Neighbors on Eden Terrace said an unknown man has lurked in their backyards and peered into their windows for the past month. The neighbors also showed NewsChannel 36 damage to their window sills and screens where it appeared someone was trying to get in.
We're not getting any sleep. I come and look out that bathroom window several times a night, said neighbor Sandra Haas.
Her neighbor, Dayna Lindsey, said she's seen the man twice in her backyard. Each time he was gone before police arrived. She also believes he disabled the outdoor lights on her house.
My 15-year-old son has stopped sleeping, literally. He stays up all night long, Lindsey said.
Neighbors said after a month of dealing with the peeping, on an almost nightly basis, they feel helpless. They mounted new lights on their homes. They've cleared brush that could provide hiding spots. They've posted 'No Trespassing' signs. They've even put out traps.
My sons have set traps out here in the yard, hoping that he'll fall in one, and break an ankle, said Haas.
Neighbors said police officers have stepped up patrols in the area, hoping to catch the Peeping Tom, but have had no luck. At this point, Haas said she's ready to move.
I can't live like this anymore. I cannot live where I can't sleep without being afraid, she said.
A similar Peeping Tom was reported by neighbors Tuesday on Flint Street, a few miles away. It's not clear if police think the cases are related.
