RALEIGH, N.C. -- Nine candidates are now officially in the race to succeed Sue Myrick just two weeks after she announced she would not run for re-election for her North Carolina congressional seat.

The State Board of Elections said three more people filed Thursday for the 9th Congressional District seat - Charlotte City Council member Andy Dulin, former councilman Edwin Peacock and state Rep. Ric Killian. Killian is currently serving in the Army reserve in Afghanistan and will return home in a few weeks.

Seven Republicans, Democrat Jennifer Roberts and Libertarian Curtis Campbell have all entered the race.

Libertarian Barbara Howe also filed Thursday as a candidate for governor. Howe was the party's 2004 nominee. Democratic state Sen. Eric Mansfield officially filed for lieutenant governor.
