MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. A man was arrested after troopers say he slammed into four patrol cars and injured three troopers.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon at the I-485 outer loop exit to US 29.

According to the State Highway Patrol, Patrick Willis exited I-485 and didn t slow down enough to avoid hitting the concrete curb at the top of the ramp. Willis crossed US 29 and struck four patrol cars stationed in the median, according to the Highway Patrol.

Authorities say Willis had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath after ramming into their patrol cars.

Troopers were in the median assisting with the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Race; three troopers were injured after being struck and trying to get out of the way of the collision.

Investigators say Willis had a 9-year-old child in the front seat that was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Two of the three injured troopers Sgt. Suttles, and Trooper Cockerham were treated at Carolinas Medical Center for minor leg injuries.

The investigating troopers, Sgt. J.S. Nash and T.E. Baity, said Willis will face charges of driving while impaired, reckless driving, and child abuse.

According to the Mecklenburg County records, Willis bond was set at $500. He is facing only one charge of driving while impaired.

Investigators said Willis blew a .14; the legal alcohol limit is .08.

According to officers, the entire incident was captured on the dash camera.
