LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- Authorities have arrested a woman who's accused of stealing prescription pills while employed at Carolinas Medical Center as a nurse.

Jessica Ann Brooks, 31, a former nurse with CMCLincoln, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with 19 counts of felony embezzlement of a controlled substance by employee, seven felony counts of larceny by an employee and two felony counts of conspiracy.

In early February, Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies went to CMC Lincoln, where a supervisor reported that Brooks had stolen several vials of the powerful painkiller Dilaudid.

The case was then turned over to the narcotics division, who were assisted by a drug diversion specialist from the State Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities arrested Brooks at her home in the 800 block of Summey Farm Road in Dallas. Also arrested was 32-year-old Jonathan Keith James. James, who was at the home at the time, is charged with two felony counts of conspiracy and one misdemeanor count of communicating threats.
