CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mecklenburg County secured a new tax assessor in a County Commissioners meeting Tuesday.

Kenneth Joyner will take over the job. He s the first assessor the county s had since December.

Joyner is a former tax administrator and most recently a lecturer at the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

His first day on the job will be Oct. 1. He ll earn $150,000 annually.

Next, the county is required to redo the revaluation it was ordered to do by the state, which was scheduled to begin Sept. 18.

Joyner will need to hire 10 appraisers and six other staff members.
