STANLYCOUNTY, N.C. -- Authorities recovered the body of a 19-year-old man who drowned Sunday afternoon at the Old Whitney train trestle.

Craig Vanderhall, of Concord, and some friends were swimming at the Old Whitney train trestle in Concord Sunday afternoon when Vanderhall jumped from the trestle into the water. Vanderhall surfaced and began swimming to shore when he disappeared under the water.

Witnesses made attempts to find Vanderhall, but were unsuccessful.

Authorities were called to the scene and quickly recovered Vanderhall's body.
