CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sixteen suspects were arrested in an operation which targeted illegal activity of known gang members on probation or parole in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties, police say.

CMPD, in conjunction with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, NC Highway Patrol, US Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and the NC Department of Public Safety's K-9 Unit, conducted the operation on June 24 and 26.

Police say the goal of the operation is to send a strong message that violence in our community will not be tolerated.

In total, authorities say they seized six firearms, of which four were stolen, 20 grams of cocaine, 60 grams of marijuana and more than $10,000 in cash.
