CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A local hero had his wishes come true Friday thanks to a genie who travels the world, recognizing good deeds.

From fancy cars to fast cars, the Experience Genie and Doc Hendley enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime day together.

We're surprising you with your dream day, said the Experience Genie, greeting Hendley at Hendrick Lexus in Charlotte where Hendley thought he was having a meeting.

I didn't know what to think, Hendley said about seeing the man dressed in red, wearing a blue mask.

The main reason I do it is to get their reaction, said the Experience Genie.

The genie travels the world, surprising community heroes with their dream day.

We're going to be driving this Lexus. We're going NASCAR racing. We're going Indy racing. You're going to fly an airplane, the genie told Hendley.

The Experience Genie picked Hendley after CNN named the former bartender a hero for the work he's doing around the world. So far, his locally-based nonprofit Wine to Water has helped 25,000 children get clean drinking water.

Hendley hosts wine fundraisers, and then uses the money he raises to build wells himself. He's travelled to Haiti and Darfur.

When somebody does pick up on what you're doing and makes you feel special, there's not really words on how it makes you feel. It's awesome, Hendley said.

The Experience Genie says his father is the reason he granted wishes.

I never got a chance to take him out. I took care of him for the last year of his life, the genie said.

Finding everyday heroes helps him heal.

My father was a hero and to hang out with these people, it brings back my father a little bit for sure, he said. The whole point of what we do now is to shine a light on local heroes and inspire other people.

The Experience Genie has granted more than 40 wishes in the 18 months. The organization works with local charities to find people to celebrate.
