CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One woman nearly drowned in a pond in the University Area on Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place at a pond behind the University Hilton Hotel located at 8629 JMKeynes Drive in northeast Charlotte around 3:30 p.m.

The Charlotte Fire Department said the victim was out of the water when officials arrived.

Witness Craig Brown, who shot the raw video, said he saw the woman swimming in the pond and began recording before she abruptly screamed for help. He and others began to help, and one man jumped into the pond to get her.

The woman was conscious and alert and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
