A main throroughfare through Ballantyne is now closed in one direction, to prepare for an "important dignitary" at Ballantyne Resort, widely believed to be President Obama and his staff.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police closed westbound Ballantyne Commons Parkway between North Community House Road and Johnston Road around 9 a.m. Monday.
DOT workers pulled up with a truck full of concrete barriers around that time, ready to block roads. Metal fence barricades already lined the road.
A portion of Ballantyne Corporate Place off Ballantyne Commons, near theBallantyne Hotel, is also closed.
Starting Wednesday, Ballantyne Commons will be closed in both directions from Johnston Road.
The road closures are sure to cause traffic headaches for Ballantyne-area residents, but some just took the changes in stride.
Work our way around it I guess, find different ways in and out of the neighborhood, said one Ballantyne resident who didn't want to give his name. It's not that bad, he said.
Jessica Paire said communities have been good about sharing information about traffic with the residents.
Roads are scheduled to open again at noon on Friday.
