Three people were injured during a fight at a house party in northwest Charlotte early Sunday, including two college football players who are former teammates at West Mecklenburg High.

According to police, officers received a call about shots fired at a house on Harland Street, east of Old Plank Road and Brookshire Boulevard.

When officers arrived around 2:30 a.m., the people involved in the shooting had scattered, though officers did find evidence that gunshots had been fired.

A short time later, investigators discovered a shooting victim inside a nearby vehicle. That person was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Two more shooting victims showed up at Presbyterian hospital a short time later.

Police had no suspects in the shooting and hadn t made any arrests Sunday afternoon.

A spokesman for UNC Charlotte identified one of the victims as Prince Mayela, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound free safety on the university s football team.

Mayela, a West Meck graduate, played in the 49ers final full scrimmage of the fall on Saturday in the team s new football stadium. Mayela was shot in the hip area and his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Another former West Meck player, Tashion Singleton, was also injured in the incident, according to a spokesman at Appalachian State University, where Singleton is a freshman.

Singleton, a high school teammate of Mayela s, is a defensive lineman who has played one game for the Mountaineers this season.

I visited with Tashion this afternoon and he is resting comfortably and in good spirits, Appalachian State coach Jerry Moore said in a statement. We are thankful that his injury is not more serious. The thoughts of our players and coaches are with Tashion and his family as he begins what we pray will be a speedy and complete recovery.

Police would not identify the other victim.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tipsters can be eligible for a reward for information that leads to an arrest.
