CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte City Council member Warren Cooksey announced Monday that he will not run for re-election.

It has been a privilege to serve the City of Charlotte as the Council Member for District 7 for three terms, said Cooksey. However, it s time to let the voters choose someone else to have that opportunity. It s good to have a sense of balance in life, and I need to focus on personal and professional goals for a while.

Cooksey was firest elected in 2007 to City Council. Cooksey was part of two bipartisan coalitions that prevented a property tax increase in 2012. He also voted against accepting funding from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.

I have thoroughly enjoyed advocating conservative approaches to City issues, said Cooksey. I hope the next Council Member from District 7 also seeks to work with other Council Members to do what is best for all of Charlotte.
