HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley says being bullied as a child taught her to speak up and be strong.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/17i50F7 ) the governor made the comments to school children Thursday as part of her anti-bullying campaign.

Haley is Indian-American and says she was bullied in elementary school because children didn't know if she was black or white.
