CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A two-alarm fire ripped through an apartment building in east Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.
It started around 2:40 p.m. at the Ashley Place Apartments in the 5700 block of Electra Lane.
Medics did not transfer anyone to the hospital.
There is no word yet on a cause, but investigators say it started in a kitchen.
AirStar caught video of the two completely destroyed unites. In all, eight families were displaced because utilities had to be turned off for eight units. This is particularly devastating on a night when temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s.
The damage is estimated to total around $200,000.
Firefighters managed to save six apartments.
