TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. -- Investigators are working to determine the cause of death for two people whose bodies were discovered inside their home on Tuesday.

Concerned neighbors called 911 after not seeing an elderly couple in nearly two weeks. Sheriff's Deputies responded to the home in the 500 block of County Home Road around noon Tuesday for a welfare check.

Numerous attempts to contact anyone inside the home failed, and officers forcefully made entry. Upon entry into the home, deputies found the bodies of 77-year-old Robert Quackenbush and his wife, 71-year-old Betty Jean Quackenbush.

The cause of death for the Quackenbushes has not yet been determined, and investigators have not ruled out foul play.

Anyone who may have seen the couple in the last two weeks, or anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (828) 632-2911.
