CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A tractor trailer caught fire during rush hour Wednesday evening just feet from where an earlier crash just cleared.
The incident began blocking traffic around 5:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Mallard Creek Church Road. All lanes are now open and no one was hurt.
Those same lanes opened fully to traffic just about an hour before.
Multiple people were taken to the hospital after an earlier tractor trailer accident at W. WT Harris Boulevard.
That crash happened around 12:45 p.m. at exit 45.Crews were on scene for hours to control fuel leaking from the tractor-trailer and clear the scene.Lanes slowly began to open throughout the afternoon but the crash caused delays for many drivers.
Five people were transported to the hospital with serious injuries in the first crash, according to Medic. Three patients' injuries are considered life-threatening.
