CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Knights latest acquisition got a rude welcome to Charlotte thanks to three burglars.

Pitcher Daniel McCutchen spent five years in the Major Leagues before the Chicago White Sox signed him to a minor league contract.

He arrived in Charlotte Friday night and checked into the Double Tree in Gateway Village.

He told police that he went to dinner, and when he returned two hours later to find all of his stuff was gone.

Including a $40,000 watch and some personal items with strong sentimental value, but those items were not gone for long.

Police were able to track down the robbers a few hours after the incident.

They stopped a driver for a tag violation and being observant and using good investigative skills they determined there was stolen property, said Lt Joseph Carey of CMPD's Central Division.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on West Kingston Ave and arrested Steve Brown, Terrance Malachi and Malcolm Smith.

Police say that even if you are staying in a nice hotel it's never a good idea to leave valuable items behind.

We always recommend that you secure your property, don't leave it in a car don't leave it unattended in a hotel room leave it in a safe, said Carey.
