HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Huntersville Police are investigating a Wednesday night armed robbery of a pizza place in which the store's manager was struck in the face with a handgun.

Police say a black male in his 20s entered the Uncle Maddios Pizza Joint in the 10100 block of Northcross Center Court just after 10 p.m. Wednesday armed with a handgun.

The suspect, who was said to be wearing dark clothing and a bandana, entered the store after closing and stole personal items from employees and money from the store safe, police say.

During the robbery, Huntersville Police say the suspect pistol-whipped the store manager; the victim sustained minor injuries.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but not before catching the eye of police. A brief pursuit ensued, but came to an end near the intersection of Poole Place Drive and Bailey Road, when police say the suspect crashed his getaway car, then fled on foot.

He was able to evade officers.
