CHERRYVILLE, N.C. -- A Cherryville man is behind bars in Lincoln County, accused of stealing a motorcycle and attempting to evade officers.

Thursday morning around 2, a Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy noticed a motorcycle driven by 43-year-old Coley Phillip Craft cross the center line on Hull's Grove Church Road, officials say. Craft then ran a stop sign, turned into a driveway at Bill Davis Trucking and Reep's Grove Church Road, dropped the motorcycle and fled into the woods, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies searched the area and were able to apprehend Craft.

The Sheriff's Office says the motorcycle Craft was driving had been reported stolen from the Walmart in Cherryville.

Craft is charged with one felony count each of operating a motor vehicle while attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of stolen goods and larceny of a motor vehicle, along with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, reckless driving to endanger and resist, delay and obstruct a public officer.

Craft was booked in to the Lincoln County Detention Center under a $30,000 bond.
