CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. -- Thanks to a tip, authorities in Chester County busted a marijuana growing operation that led them to the discovery of an elaborate cockfighting ring.
Last Friday, the Chester County Sheriff's Office says a tip led them to an undisclosed location in Chester County where they located an indoor marijuana growing operation.
While serving the search warrant, deputies say they found 200 birds on the property, along with a cockfighting arena and materials used in cockfighting.
During their investigation, deputies found a storage unit that belonged to one of the suspects arrested in this case, where 20 pounds of pot was found.
Arrested in connection with the case were Vidal Osa and Odlamis Labanino, of Chester; Reinier Guerra, of Baton Rouge, LA; Pablo Delgado, of Love Oak, Florida; and Gladis Iriarte, of Miami Garden, FL. Officials did share their specific charges.
Sheriff Alex Underwood says, "This was a big operation that was uncovered in Chester County. These types of operations are on the rise and I am pleased that we were able to infiltrate this one here in Chester County. This is a good example of the community working together. Just on one tip, we were able to uncover and disband an operation that could have potentially posed a serious threat to our community."
Authorities in Union, Fairfield, York and Richland County assisted Chester County on this case.
