GASTONCOUNTY, N.C. -- Three local teenagers asked guests to their thirteenth birthday to party to bring food for the animal shelter in lieu of gifts.

Twins Claire and Camille Weiss, both students at Cramerton Middle School, along with their friend Lucas Larrazabal, a student a Grier Middle School, decided they wanted to make a difference and do something good while celebrating their birthdays.

When invitations went out for their party, a message inside read In lieu of gifts, please bring a bag of dog or cat food the Gaston County Animal Shelter.

Guests who attended their March 14 party brought a combined 700 pounds of dog and cat food for the shelter.

Claire, Camille and Lucas dropped off that food on March 19, at the Gaston County Police Department Animal Control Division. Officers there say they're grateful for the donation.
