GASTONIA, N.C. -- Three people had to be extricated from vehicles following a two-vehicle crash Monday night in Gastonia.

Monday night around 8:30, the Gastonia Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a tree on Armstrong Park Road near Club Drive in Gastonia.

Authorities say the accident involved a pickup truck with three occupants, one of whom was pinned inside the vehicle, and a van with two occupants, both of whom were pinned inside.

Utilizing hydraulic rescue tools, the three pinned-in occupants were pulled to safety within 15 minutes.

Five people were taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with injuries first responders described to be non-life threatening.

The scene was cleared in about an hour.
