HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- As free as a bird!

Carolina Raptor Center released a rehabilitated American bald eagle, named Explorer, to celebrate a major new addition.

Duke Energy presented the center with a $15,000 grant Friday morning to support eagle conservation and science education.

Carolina Raptor Center said Explorer was in bad shape when she came to the facility, unable to use her legs, and was treated for about a year.

Two other eagles are being readied for release.
