PINEVILLE, N.C. -- All lanes of Interstate 485 near Highway 51 in Pineville are open after a construction related electrical outage forced crews to close all lanes north and south.
The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. in the construction zone along I-485 near Highway 51. A contractor was moving equipment when a low hanging power line was hit. No one was injured.
Duke Energy announced the lanes would be closed in both directions starting at 5 p.m. Why at the height of rush hour? A Duke Energy spokesperson says there were concerns of voltage issues. The lanes were closed for about 10 minutes.
"We apologize for any delays this caused motorist, however this was a safety issue," Lisa Parrish, a spokesperson for Duke Energy said in a statement. "It was important for us to take immediate action to make the repairs."
A spokesperson for the North Carolina Department of Transportation says they learned about the lane closure at about 4:20 p.m.
