Mandy Stokes and her crew captured the largest alligator ever legally killed in Alabama on Aug. 15, catching a monster gator that measured 15 feet long and weighed in at 1,011.5 pounds, reports

They wrangled the alligator out of the Alabama River and brought it to a check-in station at a local state park, according to AP. It was so big that it broke the machine used to hoist it.

According to, the Thomaston, Ala., hunting crew fought the gator for more than five hours and even tried to shoot it — which just made it mad.

In addition to Mandy Stokes, the crew includes Stokes' husband, John, brother-in-law Kevin Jenkins and his kids, Savannah, 16 and Parker, 14.
