FORT MILL, N.C. -- Folks in Lancaster and York counties will soon have a new choice when it comes to buying groceries.

Doors will open for for the first time Wednesday morning at two new Publix Super Markets in both Indian Land and Fort Mill.

Area residents say the stores mark an era of new growth and competition in the communities.  The stores both employ about 125 people each.  Area residents are hoping other large companies follow suit and consider a move to the area.

"It's exciting to see our town growing, getting bigger," said Indian Land resident, Anthony Sorce. "You know, people moving in and making investments into these big projects to bring more homes and more jobs."

The Indian Land store is flanked by open retail space, possibly drawing even more business.

"As we open there will be more retailers coming into the area.  Places like dry cleaners, nail salons, places where people run errands," said Publix representative, Brenda Reid.

The new stores are touching off what some are calling a grocery war, and many shoppers hope that means more competitive pricing.  Publix seems to be embracing that competition.

"We're prepared...we're putting our best foot forward," said Reid.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for both stores at 6:45 Wednesday morning.
