CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Authorities have confirmed one fatality in a Tuesday afternoon accident in Ballantyne.

Emergency crews responded to the crash involving a dump truck around 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 13500 block of Lancaster Highway.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says the dump truck was headed southbound on Lancaster Highway when the truck went off the road to the right. The driver overcorrected and lost control.

The truck struck an oncoming car in the northbound lanes. A Jeep, also headed northbound, swerved to avoid the collision and drove down an embankment. Both drivers were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The dump truck rolled to its left side in the collision, pinning the driver inside the vehicle. Firefighters extricated him but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say speed is not a factor in this crash, but alcohol may have been involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
