UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- A teenager and woman were killed when the vehicle they were in ran a stop sign Thursday night on a rural Union County road.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said 28-year-old Samantha Wilson Wylie and 13-year-old Jewel Ann Witlow were killed when Wylie ran a stop sign and was hit by another vehicle at the intersection of Sikes Mill Road and Brief Road.
Troopers said Wylie was driving a Chevy Cavalier west on Brief Road and ran a stop sign. The car was hit in the driver-side door by a Honda CRV driven by 22-year-old Sarah Medlin Lambert.
Wylie's car slammed into a nearby barn after being hit, according to troopers.
Wylie's 3-year-old son was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center and is expected to be OK. Lambert was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
