SAN ANTONIO -- Has the beloved Cap'n Crunch been demoted? An internet controversy is threatening to sink the cereal mascot's reputation.

Foodbeast.com posted a blog entry on Friday that made a striking observation -- Cap'n Crunch isn't a captain, he's a commander.

A writer at the online publication said the Cap'n's sleeve regalia is all wrong. According to the U.S. Navy, the rank of captain carries four stripes, not three.

"Next you're going to tell me that Tony the Tiger is really a cranky bald man in a cat suit," Charisma Madarang wrote.

In a later post, the blogger mentioned that readers of her post insisted that anyone in command of a ship is considered a captain.
