CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The weather system that brought the burst of heavy snow to the area has now moved off the coast. Today will be sunny but still very chilly with highs in the low 40s compared to a normal high of 55.

Snowfall reports show the heaviest snow fell yesterday in Gaston, York and Chester Counties. These areas saw 2 to as much as 5 inches. Other location in the NBC Charlotte viewing area received a trace to as much as 2 inches.

The snow will melt quickly in the sunny spots but the snow cover should stick in shaded areas into Tuesday.

One travel issue today will be the bright conditions caused by the sunny skies reflecting off the snow. Overnight travel problems will occur where the snow melted causing water on roadway and then freezing once the sun goes down.

By Monday afternoon, highs will recover into the low 50s. We'll see a 50 percent chance of rain showers on Tuesday.
