BOILING SPRINGS, NC -- Gardner-Webb football is off to it's best start since 2002. The Bulldogs wouldn't be 4-1 if it wasn't for a walk-on kicker by the name of Jordan Day.
The Marvin, North Carolina native kicked the Bulldogs to back to back wins over ranked opponents earlier this month.
Jordan had some undergraduate hours to finish up and couldn't imagine being in school without also being a part of something bigger.
"I saw that there was an opportunity to kick on the football team, so I figured I'd take full advantage of it," Jordan said.
Jordan, who spent four years playing soccer for the Bulldogs, never had the opportunity to kick a game winning field goal during his high school career at Marvin Ridge. He says he really enjoyed the chance to knock off the 11th ranked Spiders.
"Richmond was a kicker's fantasy, to get the chance at four field goals, including the game winner was a great experience," he said.
Jordan also kicked Gardner-Webb past 8th ranked Wofford the following week in Spartanburg, despite the fact that he hadn't attempted a field goal since 2008.
The Runnin' Bulldogs travel to Charlotte next Saturday afternoon.
Kickoff is set for noon.
