CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A story that began with a grinch now has a happy ending.
Thursday, as Charlotte firefighters from Station 23 battled a fire, someone stole the station’s Christmas tree.
Someone then came forward Friday and donated a fully decorated tree for the firefighters.
Of course, they say, this didn’t have to happen to begin with.
“If they needed a tree – if they would’ve rung the doorbell and asked, we would've given it to them,” one firefighter told NBC Charlotte.
The stolen tree was paid for with money out of the firefighters’ own pockets and they decorated it themselves. It’s a tradition they’ve had for years.
