CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Cooler temperatures forced folks across the Charlotte area to whip out the jackets and long sleeves on Monday.

A cold front moved into the area Saturday afternoon bringing showers, and the cold weather spilled into the start of the work week.

Monday's highs were expected to reach the mid 50s with light, spotty showers in afternoon.

“It’s just going to be a chilly day today,” said First Warn Storm Team’s Larry Sprinkle.  “Overcast, but certainly not an all afternoon wash out by any means.”

The average high is 73, but the metro area did not get into the 60's, Sprinkle noted.

The chance for rain Monday night is 40 percent, with lows in the mid-40s.

Some sun will return by Tuesday. Highs will be in the 60s. The Charlotte area will see more sunshine for the second half of the week, with lower 70s each afternoon.

“We will see an improvement with our weather situation but it’s going to take a couple of days for all that to happen," added Sprinkle.
