CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The weekend floods have left dozens of people with thousands of dollars in damage to their homes and property, and while this kind of loss is devastating financially and emotionally, NBC Charlotte interviewed one insurance agent who says he rarely sells flood insurance, but it is something homeowners should investigate.
"A fourth of floods occur in non standard areas, so it's hedging your bets on financial security. Can you afford to have that damage," questioned Rob Honeycutt of Honeycutt Insurance, and independent insurance agent in south Charlotte.
Honeycutt says only homeowners who live in a flood zone and have a mortgage are required to buy flood insurance.
But any homeowner or renter can purchase the insurance if they feel they’re at risk.
