CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Several volunteer groups met up in Charlotte's Cherry Park neighborhood Thursday for the ribbon cutting on a new playground.

HGTV star Carter Oosterhouse brought along his charity "Carter’s kids" to help build a new playground at Cherry Park.

Volunteers from Lowe’s and Rebuilding Together also made improvements to six homes in the area.  They built new porches, new roofs, plumbing and dry wall repair.  Folks who live in the neighborhood say these are much needed improvements.

"Five years ago you couldn't come through this neighborhood because of drugs and other issues they faced,” said Marshall Croom, Lowe’s Chief Risk Officer.  “So now it's a great peaceful community.  They have pride in their community and love their community."
