CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- About 500 anxious shoppers stood in the dark, the wind and the cold overnight as they waited for Charlotte’s first H&M to open. They were joined by many more as time went on Thursday.
After months of anticipation, the 25,000 square foot store opened its doors at noon. The first people in line told Charlotte Today they arrived at 1:52 a.m. to secure a spot. Some other shoppers say they used to drive to other locations around the region, some as far as Atlanta, just to get to an H&M.
Sherri Chisholm-Whiteside of Northlake Mall said it’s good for business H&M offers trendy clothing for an affordable price. She said she only expects the mall to improve with the additions of new shops like this, and the upcoming Michael Kors store.
A second H&M is set to open in Carolina Place Mall by the end of the year.
