CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Emergency crews are investigating an accident where a driver lost control of their Jeep and crashed into a creek in north Charlotte.
The Charlotte Fire Department said a Jeep crashed into Clark Creek off of Mallard Creek Road near Island Park Drive around 8:35 a.m. Monday. The incident happened near a dirt path in a heavily wooded area used by biker and joggers. Authorities say it appears the driver may have been off-roading.
A Haz-Mat team was called out to contain a spill from the vehicle. Authorities did not say whether the spill was gasoline or some other substance from the vehicle. Boom devices, which help absorb fuel and other toxic substances, were placed downstream.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Charlotte Fire is investigating, but it does not appear the driver will face any charges. NewsChannel 36 reporter Greg Argos saw the SUV driver leaving the scene with the tow-truck driver after talking with investigators.
Officials from the local branch of the Environmental Protection Agency were also called to the scene, which was cleared around 11:00 a.m.
