CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A local university is lending a helping hand to students and the community.

Johnson C. Smith University is hosting their annual health fair Friday.

More than 35 vendors are on site offering everything from HIV tests to massages.  Folks can also get a cholesterol screening and enjoy a free hair cut.

The Red Cross is also standing by for blood donations.  Organizers say the fair is a way to give back.

"Typically if they have a healthy body, their perception of life is much better.  And we've noticed typically and research has indicated that students do much in school if they have a healthy mind and body," said Dr. Robert Lindsey, Health Fair Chairman.

This is the seventh year for the fair.  It runs until 2 p.m. Friday and is open to the public.
