CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- This is a big weekend for the Charlotte Woodcarvers Club.
Woodcarvers from 10 different states will be in the Queen City for the Charlotte Woodcarvers Club 2013 Showcase of Woodcarving.
The theme this year is “The Wild, Wild West” and takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Marion Diehl Center on Tyvola Road.
Over 100 carvers will be there 10 a.m to 4 p.m. both days, with one of the largest woodcarving showcases in the Southeast and it’s free for everyone!
Entering pieces in the showcase costs $15 per carver, regardless of how many carvings they want to bring, and carvers do not have to be a member of the Charlotte Woodcarvers or any other club to enter.
Tom Wolfe, a nationally known carver who has written more than 50 books on woodcarving, will hold a separate competition where he will give each carver a block of wood they are allowed to carve for an hour and a half.
He will provide the wood and the prizes for this portion of the showcase.
This morning on Larry’s Look, three members of the local club were in our studios. They brought some of the fantastic carvings, that will be displayed this weekend at the show.
There are about 125 members in the Charlotte Woodcarvers Club, which meets every Tuesday at the Cathcart Hall at Carmel Presbyterian Church.
