CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Runners returned to Charlotte from the Boston Marathon on Tuesday.
NBC Charlotte's Katie Killen was at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and spoke with two runners who returned from Boston Tuesday morning.
"We heard two big booms, and we just thought it was construction, it was kind of muffled because we were high up [on a building]," Caleb Masland of Blowing Rock said of the bombings. "We really didn't know what was happening until we got a message from a friend on Facebook."
Sheri Nameth, from Tennessee, landed in Charlotte this morning after running in the marathon. She explained how terrifying her whole ordeal was during the bombings.
"We're very fortunate, very fortunate," she said. "I can't tell how scary it was for us."
There were 73 runners registered to run in the Boston Marathon from Charlotte. Nearly 400 runners from North Carolina were in the marathon.
