CHERRYVILLE, N.C. -- A shocking video of a man knocking an elderly couple over to get to the cash they were using to pay in line at WalMart.
An older Cherryville couple was getting ready to check out at WalMart when the man behind them did the unthinkable.
The 63-year-old woman told NBC Charlotte, “It was, in my opinion, so bold."
The couple is terrified, so we're not identifying them, but the 67-year-old husband and his wife say they had so much stuff in their cart, they offered to let the man behind them go in front.
Instead, he waited, and when they used Christmas money, three hundred dollar bills to pay, he pounced.
"He took the money and he said ‘thanks or thank you’. It was quickly said, quickly moving and I was just shocked, it was surreal. I just couldn't grasp that it was actually happening, the woman said.
Her husband added, "It's just a shock; I thought he was kidding when he grabbed the money, but he wasn’t kidding, he was serious."
The man was so serious that when the husband tried to stop the suspect, the man knocked him to the ground.
His terrified wife was watching.
"They both tumbled down, and my first thought was for my husband, they [were] both kind of tangled at the end, and the person that took the money jumped up."
Her husband of more than 40 years has a bad heart and was just released from hospital a week ago. She worried he might be seriously hurt.
"I was screaming and crying," she remembers.
Her husband is okay; he has a few bruises.
Cherryville police are hoping someone will see the video, recognize the man and call them.
