MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Anyone who lives in Mooresville has seen the old Bay State Milling Company, which has been a landmark on Main Street in downtown for decades.

The mill, which makes flour, adds to the Mooresville tax base and employees people who live in town, but some residents are upset with their longtime neighbor, especially when it comes to noise.

"This just started about a year ago, started getting louder, and louder and louder," said Simeon Sordjan, who has lived in his house on Academy for five years.

Sordjan said the sounds were not bad the first four years but they intensified about 12 months ago. "Mooresville just doesn't seem to do anything about this and I don't know why."

Sordjan said that the noises, which come from the mill throughout the day, make his walls shake and do more than disrupt his day.  It makes him sick.

"It’s a constant humming inside the house.  Even when the windows are closed it’s driving me crazy," Sordjan said.

Sordjan said that he has contacted everyone from the mayor to the Governor asking for someone to step in to help solve the problem, but he has gotten nowhere.

The Town of Mooresville said that the plant had 12 noise complaints since October of 2011 and has not broken the law.

Sordjan just wants help.

"I believe they made over $60 million last year and they could have taken a small percentage of that money and put in sound proofing here," he said.
