CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A nine month old died from overdosing on two separate drugs, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Kaleb Lowery was found unresponsive in his home in the 9500 block of Lina Ardrey Lane in the morning of July 22. Hospital staff at CMC Pineville soon after pronounced him dead.
The Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday the victim died because of the two drugs in his system.
The boy’s grandmother, 49-year-old Charlene Workman, has now been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have not said what drugs were found in the infant's system, and toxicology reports won't be finished for several weeks.
Workman appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon, and was given no bond. A bond hearing has been set for October 2. A public defender was appointed to her during Wednesday's court proceedings.
