STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Statesville authorities arrested woman who robbed two stores with a knife on Tuesday.

Authorities charged 50-year-old Veronica Neely with two counts of robbery after she walked into the Food Lion on Turnersburg Highway around 3:30 p.m. with a large knife and stole money from a cash register.

She also robbed Dollar General around 8:30 p.m. on Mocksville Road with a large knife and also tried to take money from the cash register, according to authorities.

She fled without getting the register but police officers and Iredell County Sheriff's Office deputies converged on the area and began looking for a silver minivan or sport utility vehicle that had been spotted in the vicinity, police said.

A short time later, authorities found a silver Ford Escape behind the Hallmark Inn and witnesses claimed the driver had left walking on Davie Avenue.

Police watched the Escape and a short time later, a woman came out and got in the vehicle. They stopped the SUV on Davie Avenue and questioned the driver.

Authorities had the Dollar General manager came to the scene and positively identified the driver as the woman who attempted to take the cash register moments before.

No one was hurt during the two robberies, according to authorities.
